What do you think about the Benoni Town Hall being closed for three years?
The Benoni Town Hall was closed by the metro for refurbishment in 2014.
Phindile Skosana, Daveyton: It’s not a good thing. Why close it for so long, but not do any refurbishment? It’s a waste of the building.
Not much has happened since then, despite the metro saying it would be reopened in 14 months.
We asked Benonians what they think of the public building standing empty.
Lebohang Pheko, Westdene: It’s a waste of public utilities. It could be used for public events. It was used for workshops and the like before.
Lientjie van Tonder, Cloverdene: Everything is like that these days. They close monumental or public buildings and then nothing happens.
Rod Scheepers, Northmead: It’s shocking. All the amateur drama societies that used the hall can’t do so now. It should have been fixed long ago.
Ernst van Tonder, Cloverdene: They closed it down and didn’t refurbish. It shouldn’t have been closed for so long.
