Rynpark Open Garden Day

Following the success of last year’s event, a group of enthusiastic gardeners in the Rynpark Retirement Village are re-hosting the event in three of the adjoining parks (four, five and six) with the help of management and Rotary and Lions Clubs.

The Rynpark Association for the Aged houses over 1 200 senior citizens in apartments, life right cottages and frail care facilities.

There are seven parks in total and many residents have lived there for over 20 years and are well into their 80s and 90s.

All funds raised from the garden project go to the Rynpark Welfare Fund, which assists with subsidising meal tickets and medical requirements, among other expenses.

You can stop off at the tea gardens in Rynpark Six, run by Rotary Anns, to enjoy tea and cake or a sandwich.

Then pop into the Frail Care section in Rynpark Six and admire the display of quilts by the Q-East Quilting Club.

If you want a hamburger or a boerewors roll, then Rynpark Four is the place to be.

Don’t forget to stop in at the dining hall in Rynpark Five, to admire the display of art by the Benoni Art Society and Artists Working Together, as well as many other art and craft displays and things of interest to everyone.

Landscaper David Viljoen will give a talk and answer some of your questions, and there will also be plants on sale.

While walking around and admiring the many gardens and cottages, you may also hear the Farrarmere Primary School Choir.

The entrances are at Rynpark Four and Five and secure off-road parking will be available free of charge.

Wheelchair assistance will be available to any visitors who may be in need of this service.

Entrance is R20 per person and children under 12 can get in free of charge
