80s Rewind Festival

On Saturday, January 31, no fewer than nine original acts — straight out of the 1980s — will perform live in the enthralling, festive, outdoor ’80s Rewind Festival, at Carnival City.

Among the legendary artists from the 1980s performing in the show are Nick Kershaw (Wouldn’t it be Good); Go West (King of Wishful Thinking); Heather Small from M People (Moving on Up); Cutting Crew (I just Died in your Arms Tonight); Katrina ex Katrina and the Waves (Walking on Sunshine); Wang Chung (Everybody have Fun Tonight), and Billy Ocean (Caribbean Queen).

A few top South African bands who gained fame in the ’80s are also in the mix. They include Cinema (My Kind of Girl) and Face to Face (Here we are).

Between these artists, they have produced massive chart-toppers, sold over a 100 million records worldwide, achieved gold and platinum status, and won numerous music awards.

Michelle Smith, the newly-appointed marketing manager at Carnival City, said this is the biggest ’80s music festival in the world, combining some of the best local and international bands from the 1980s in one electrifying show.

“We are absolutely thrilled to stage the ’80s Rewind Concert on our Festival Lawns,” she said.

“It is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to dance the night away to some of your favourite hits by original artists from the ’80s era,” she added.

This festival — proudly brought to South Africa by KIA, Jacaranda FM, VH1 and DSTV — is just the start of a stunning line-up of shows and concerts to be held at Carnival City this year.

The show starts at 4pm, but revelers are invited to arrive early to secure a good spot on the Festival Lawns.

Food and beverages will be on sale.
