Scholars go green for Mandela Day

Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Environment donated shoes.

In a vibrant celebration of Mandela Day, the Etwatwa Greening Team joined forces with local schools to commemorate the legacy of Tata Madiba through environmental action at Barcelona Primary School.

At the event, four schools were brought together, Quantum High, Zasakhela Primary, Silindokuhle Primary and Barcelona Primary, to create a vegetable garden using seedlings donated by their agricultural advisors.

In a touching display of generosity, Mandla Shabangu and his team from the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Environment donated shoes to children from all four participating schools.

Vusi Matladi, chairperson of the Etwatwa Greening Team, said the day marked a series of impactful activities that were aimed at fostering a deeper connection to nature and community.

“We are thrilled by the success of today’s event and extend our heartfelt thanks to all our partners and participants,” said Matladi.
