Accused in ‘axe attack’ allegedly flouted bail conditions

Pheiffer stand accused of attacking his former wife with an axe

The trial against Christian (Mike) Pheiffer is set to start in the Benoni Regional Court today (July 10).

He has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his then-wife with an axe at their Farrarmere home in 2021.

Pheiffer was released on R10 000 bail in 2023 under strict conditions, some of which the state alleges have been flouted.

According to his bail conditions Pheiffer was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device, report to the investigating officer in the matter twice weekly at the Benoni Police Station and notify the court should he move to another residence.

It is alleged these conditions have not been met.

The trial was scheduled to commence on July 4, however, a postponement was requested for the State to further investigate allegations that Pheiffer contravened his bail conditions.

A request was also made for the accused to undergo independent psychiatric evaluation as Pheiffer claims to be suffering from amnesia and cannot recall the details of the alleged incident.

Magistrate Ian Cox cautioned that should it be found that he flouted any of the bail conditions set out by the court, his bail will be revoked and he will be placed under correctional supervision.
