Provincial titles at stake at Gauteng Open

“With over 3 000 entries this year, the Gauteng Open is one of the biggest lawn bowls events on the calendar."

Bowlers from all over the province will battle it out to be crowned champions in different disciplines during the Gauteng Open hosted in Randburg.

The competition started on June 29 with the juniors’ singles and matches for the disabled. It will conclude at the end of July.

Gauteng Bowls expects around 3 000 participants at this year’s showpiece and have roped in Ekurhuleni Bowls to host some overflow matches.

The Gauteng Bowls president, Sanette Kritzinger, said she’s over the moon because the tournament continues to grow every year.

“With over 3 000 entries this year, the Gauteng Open is one of the biggest lawn bowls events on the calendar. The competition gets stronger and a quick glance at some of the entries shows that this year will have some of the fiercest competitors,” said Kritzinger.

The players will compete for the singles, pairs, mixed pairs and fours titles for the next four weekends in the competition which is sponsored by Perfect Delivery Insurance.

The organisers have rebranded the tournament to reflect the game of lawn bowls and have added a new online flipbook, coffee table book and new fashion items for on and the greens.

The Gauteng Open started on June 29.

The games will also be livestreamed for those who won’t make it and the live links will be made available on the Gauteng Bowls Facebook page.

“Join in the activities, festivities and offerings during this tournament of distinction, where great bowls are delivered by some of the best ‘A graders’ bowls have to offer,” added Kritzinger.
