Benoni-based NGO The 100% Foundation opened a library at Chief Albert Luthuli Primary (No 2) on June 7 in honour of South African anti-apartheid activist Albert Luthuli, who was an enthusiastic advocate of literacy and education.

The Lions Club of Benoni donated 700 books to the library and the foundation care packs for the learners.
The event was attended by district officials from the Department of Education, learners, parents, staff, SGB members and various donors.
Janap Biemba of The 100% Foundation said: “By offering the school the library, the foundation intervenes to support educationally disadvantaged communities so that learners view the library as a sanctuary of information rather than merely a room full of books.”

A group of learners who call themselves Positive Vibrations entertained guests with various performances including dancing, reading and speeches done in multiple languages. The day concluded with a tour of the library.
