Help karateka to compete in Japan

She needs to raise R70 000 to compete in the 15th Funakoshi Gichin Cup in Japan.

Young karateka Kyla Leigh van Vollenstee of the Benoni JKA needs your help to travel to Japan to compete in the Funakoshi Gichin Cup 15th Karate World and Junior Championships in October.

The 15-year old received an invitation to participate in this prestigious tournament, played in honour of founder of Shotokan karate Gichin Funakoshi, known as the father of modern karate.

Kayla needs to raise around R70 000 to make her dream of competing in the birthplace of karate. The funds will help cover essentials like flight tickets, accommodation, and visa and SA Japanese Karate Association (JKA) fees.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Kayla to represent SA on the international stage. To turn her dream into a reality, we urgently need your support,” said Benoni JKA chief instructor, sensei Mike Forner.

“By supporting Kayla, you’re not just helping her fulfil her dream. You are also fostering the spirit of sportsmanship and national pride. Let’s come together and ensure Kayla can shine on this global stage. Thank you for your kindness and generosity,” Forner added.

You can make your contribution on Kayla’s crowdfunding page https://backabuddy.co.za/campaign/kayla-leigh-funakoshi-gichin-cup-japan-2024-conmpetition or call sensei Mike Forner on 083 458 2888.

The tournament will take place at the Takasaki Arena from October 23 to 25.
