WATCH: Honouring Mandela day with a nourishing breakfast

More than 400 people got breakfast at the Daveyton East Clinic.

In celebration of Mandela Day, Kellogg’s served breakfast to 400 Daveyton residents at the Daveyton East Clinic on July 14.

Patients at the clinic were elated to kick-start their day with a bowl of cornflakes and milk.

Kellogg’s corporate affairs director Zandile Mposelwa said the initiative is part of their Better Days Programme.

“In previous years, we have reached out to schools and communities, so we decided it would be better to find a clinic this year to serve its patients a nourishing breakfast. We are always determined to give back whenever we can,” she said.

The company’s logistics partner, DHL, donated the milk.

According to one patient, Itumeleng Mokoena, Kellogg’s gesture made a difference to her and her daughter.

“You leave home wondering where your next meal will come from. We did not have breakfast, so this gesture helped take a bit of weight off my shoulders. My daughter is so happy that she had cereal for breakfast. I am thankful,” said Mokoena.

Another clinic patient, Patricia Mokou, said, “We are thankful that we could have breakfast and coffee on this cold morning.

“The children are so happy, and we wish we could do this more often.”
