Four missing Daveyton boys found at initiation school in Mpumalanga

CPF members said they have seen an increase in the number of children who illegally go to initiation schools.

Four boys from Daveyton were recently found at an initiation school in Dennilton, Mpumalanga, without their parents’ consent.

A case of missing persons was opened at the Daveyton SAPS.

According to Etwatwa SAPS station commander Colonel Molatelo Maoto, investigations revealed that they voluntarily went to the initiation school after being influenced by either friends or other people.

It is alleged that they were kept in the waiting area because they had not paid an induction amount.

Seeing that their parents weren’t coming forward with payment, it is alleged that officials from the initiation school informed the police about their presence at the initiation school.

The four children, all under 18 years, were fetched by police and brought back home.

Etwatwa CPF chairperson Fanie Msimango said they have seen an increase in the number of children who illegally go to initiation schools.

He added more children are still missing including the recent case of 16 boys and one girl who are believed to be at initiation schools.

During a visit to the Daveyton SAPS recently, the Benoni City Times spoke to a parent who had visited the police station to report his son missing.

According to the parent, who wanted to remain anonymous, his child went to an initiation school without his permission.

“Children lately see this as an escape route. They elope with their friends to these initiation schools without thinking about the negative effects. They think that this is a joke.”

Daveyton CPF chairperson, Ramoitheki Madikgetla, said: “As CPF members we come across a lot of issues in communities. We are working with the police and the Royal Council of Daveyton to do everything in our power to reduce these social issues.”
