McCoy Mrubata to perform with Community Philharmonic Orchestra at Emperors Palace

The collaboration between these two musical giants will ignite harmonious sparks.

The saxophonist, flute player and composer McCoy Mrubata, renowned for his passion for grooming talent and community upliftment, will be joined by the 30-piece Community Philharmonic Orchestra (COMPO) on July 21 at Emperors Palace.

The evening will have serenading symphonies, tunes, and sounds from the music giants.

“This is an exciting, history-making moment for me. Having been in the industry for decades, I have been driven by the passion to unearth and nurture talent. I am delighted to share the stage with the COMPO, whose ethos is the same as mine.

“I had the pleasure of being a part of the COMPO North branch launch in 2022 and have since become the orchestra’s patron. We are now sharing a stage to bring classical music enthusiasts and those on a journey to discover this enchanting type of music an unforgettable experience,” he said.

COMPO director and conductor, Desmond Solomon, said, “We are humbled to have a giant like McCoy Mrubata inviting us to stage this first-of-its-kind concert. From humble beginnings, we have been carving our way into big arenas, and we can comfortably say the journey seems promising.

“Our philharmonic orchestra has two branches; one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg. The Cape Town branch during 2022 staged concerts at Soweto Theatre and Javett Arts Centre in Pretoria in collaboration with the Johannesburg branch, as well as the Soweto Orchestra known as SSM, to celebrate Mandela Month.”

COMPO will host workshops with junior and senior orchestras before the big night at Emperor’s Palace.

“We look forward to sharing our score with audiences and leaving them with notes to remember for years to come,” said Solomon.
