WATCH: Little Rynfield dancers dance their way to England

They will compete in the World Freestyle Championships from June 23 to 25 in Blackpool, England.

Following a performance of their championship-winning routine from last year’s national championships, dancers Nevah Meek (9) and Tayla Tucker (10) shared a tight hug while Nevah shed a tear.

It was a moment that showed the value they have in each other, which has been a crucial element in their friendship and the foundation of their partnership.

Dressed in white costumes, the duo waltzed across the dance floor in a synchronized rhythm, displaying a connection and understanding of each move they executed.

It’s this connection, love and respect that saw the Rynfield residents win the 11 and under freestyle couples title at the South African Dance Teachers Association (SADTA) national championships in November.

Now they are preparing themselves for the World Freestyle Championships from June 23 to 25 in Blackpool, England.

“To represent my country and school is such a privilege. I’m excited as the level of dancing overseas is really high. I can’t wait to see the dancers that I look up to in action,” said Nevah.

Nevah and Tayla have been friends since they were babies while their moms Katrina and Carla are also best friends.
“It’s easy to dance with someone who is just like me and feel comfortable around. It makes it very fun to be dancing partners with Nevah,” Tayla said.

This friendship has played a crucial part in their career because their personalities and style suit each other said their coach and owner of Shanleigh Dance Studio, Shanleigh Watts.

“I’m extremely proud of them. They train hard and deserve to be going to the worlds. They are friends and that makes it easier for them to train harder,” she said.

Watts, who has judged at three world championships and has produced three world champions, is confident Nevah and Tayla will do well at the competition because their routine is strong.

“They are ready to go. Although it’s a tough competition, they are capable. Their dance is strong. I believe they will do well.

“Their discipline is phenomenal. They know what they want. As their trainer and mentor, seeing them work hard in every session makes me want to do more for them,” Watts said.

Nevah Meek and Tayla Tucker have been friends since they were little.

Nevah’s mom, Katrina, thanked the girls for their hard work, dedication and determination.

“We are super excited for them to represent our country at such a young age. The girls have got such a beautiful friendship. They love each other and also love the sport,” said Katrina.

Tayla advised her peers to work hard so they can achieve their goals.

“To all dancers out there, if you put your mind to something and work hard for it, your dreams will come true,” Tayla said.
