Crime news in brief

The suspects aged between 28 and 52 years will be appearing in the local Magistrates courts facing charges of possession of drugs, armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) once again cracked the whip on criminals.

From April 24 to 26, members arrested four suspects, recovered a firearm as well as stolen goods.

Possession of drugs
Three men were arrested in Actonville and Kempton Park.

Meth, mandrax and heroin were recovered in these separate incidents.

Possession of stolen goods
Following up on information, BFS members visited a premise in Entshonalanga Section, Thembisa.

Two stolen mobile compressors, valued at R200 000, were recovered.

Armed robbery
A 52-year-old man was arrested on April 25, after he robbed a shop in Meadowbrook, Bedfordview.

“An employee of the shop allegedly followed the suspect to North Reef Road, where with the help of a local security company he was detained,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

“An Akdal 9mm with the serial numbers filed off and five live rounds of ammunition was found in his possession.”

Vehicle recovered
A white Volkswagen Polo was recovered in Clayville Extension 45, Ivory Park.

It was reported as hijacked in Thembisa.
