Outreach organisation in dire need of sponsors

The organisation offers a wide variety of skills for different age groups.

With a scarcity of skills a reality in his community, Fana Skosana came up with an initiative to form an organisation called Fana Jaliskos Foundation in March 2021 in Etwatwa.

The organisation aims to empower the youth and the elders of the community through various skills programmes and training, allocated according to their age.

Kids’ activities include sport and music while the youth are taught life skills, business, information, communication and technology skills.

Adults do arts and crafts, grow their own food and learn hospitality, whereas the elderly are being empowered through ABET, learning English and numeracy and extramural activities to utilise their already acquired skills.

FJ Foundation members package clothes before they go to deserving people.

According to Skosana, who is the director of the foundation, the NPO’s objectives also include enhancing the living conditions of the poor in their community to ensure young people focus their energy on school, sports, art and outreach programmes.

“The organisation also believes in the safety of kids, protecting them and their rights by referring them to the Department of Social Development and those who battle addiction are referred to SANCA,” he said.

“People are suffering in poverty and lack business and basic education skills, so we decided to uplift them through training.”

The organisation’s support team consists of six volunteers who assist in collecting goods from sponsors, as well as packaging and distributing these to the community.

One of the beneficiaries from Barcelona, Etwatwa, receiving clothes from the FJ foundation.

“We have donated food, clothes and shoes to over 200 families since 2021,” said Skosana.

The foundation’s needs are transport to collect food from the sponsors and facilities to store the donations, such as freezers.

They would also benefit greatly from office space equipment, however, funds do not allow for this now.

Anyone willing to assist may contact Skosana on 065 911 3967 or email fanaskosana@gmail.com.
