EMPD rolls out GBV awareness campaign

The EMPD urges communities to report crimes of gender-based violence.

Members of the EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit took to the streets of Mlotheni informal settlement and New Bridge in Benoni on February 18 and 19 to educate residents about gender-based violence (GBV).

According to the EMPD media liaison officer, Ignatius Maphike, the awareness campaign on GBV seeks to reach communities throughout the City of Ekurhuleni.

“This initiative aims to empower, assist and support victims of abuse and violence,” said Maphike.

Members of the EMPD in conjunction with Active Education did a presentation at JS Malaza Primary School in Etwatwa that focused on bullying, child trafficking and road safety.

The EMPD urges communities to report GBV crimes so that perpetrators are brought to book.
