Women’s World Cup: South Africa win first super six clash

South Africa take on Sri Lanka in their second super six match on January 24 at 13:45 at Absa Puk Oval in Potchestroom.

A 70-run fifth-wicket stand between Karabo Meso (32 not out) and Madison Landsman (37 off 38) guided South Africa to a five-wicket win in their ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Super Six clash against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom on January 21.

Chasing 106, the hosts lost the wickets of Elandri Jane van Rensburg (2), Simone Lourens (26), Kayla Reyneke (4) and Miane Smit (0) inside eight overs before Meso and Landsman’s partnership helped South Africa to 108/5 for the win.

Bangladesh’s Shorna Akter scored 20 off 18 but it wasn’t enough as they were restricted to 106/6 by South Africa.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat. Despite Sumaiya Akter’s 24 off 28 and Shorna Akter’s 20 off 18, they were undone by some brilliant bowling and fielding while Reyneke’s figures of 4/19 restricted them to 106/6 in their 20 overs.
