Companies surprise learners with much-needed donation

Gold One Modder East Operations and Masana Oil donated school uniforms to three schools.

About 80 learners from Mabuya Secondary School in Daveyton started the new academic year on a good note after receiving a donation of full school uniforms on January 11.

For their disadvantaged learners, Kingsway Secondary School and Nqubela Primary School received 54 and 115 school uniforms respectively.

The donated uniforms included grey trousers, school shoes, and school shirts.

The donations were made possible by Gold One Modder East Operations in partnership with Masana Oil and community structures.

According to Chris Nchabeleng of Gold One Modder East Operations, the schools were identified by community leaders in the schools after they saw a need.

“The beneficiaries were identified by the different schools. The donation is part of our corporate social investment initiative. Through this outreach, we also want to build a relationship with the communities where Gold One Modder East Operations operates from.”

Nchabeleng said the initiative started last year when they donated school shoes to several schools.

“We were then requested by the educators to donate full school uniforms instead of school shoes, only due to a demand for school uniforms,” Nchabeleng said.

Vanessa Boikhutso, from the Education District, applauded the sponsors, saying that the donation would boost the learners’ confidence and promote full attendance.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of Mabuya Secondary School, Bunny Mogase (head of department), said: “As the School-based Support Team, we would like to thank the sponsors for their generous donation. The uniforms will come in handy for the learners.”
