Madison to represent South Africa at inaugural U19 world cup

She's also the team's deputy captain.

Eastern Storm and Benoni Northerns Ladies Cricket’s Madison Landsman has been selected for South Africa Women’s U19 final squad playing in the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup to be hosted in January on home soil.

Madison is part of coach Denisha Devnarain’s 15-player squad that will seek to be the winners of the inaugural edition of the tournament.

The all-rounder is also captain Oluhle Siyo’s deputy.

Her coach at Eastern Storm, Adele van Eck (who is also part of the South African U19 women’s technical team), said this was a proud moment for Eastern Cricket as this was a reward for years of hard work.

“I’m very proud. Madison has been a part of Easterns from the age of 12. I’ve seen her grow and have always admired her work ethic,” Van Eck said.

The Benoni High matriculant’s father Glen stated this was a reward for her blood, sweat and tears.

“It was the biggest feeling of relief. Madison has been working on this since she was 11 years old. She’s given her everything and will keep on doing so, not only for this World Cup but most especially to achieve her goal – to wear the ladies’ senior team’s green and gold.

“To say we are proud is an understatement. Tears of joy rolled down my face while I was listening to the announcement,” Glen said.

Madison and her teammates will receive their national caps on December 11.

The squad consists of Oluhle Siyo (captain), Madison Landsman (vice-captain), Karabo Meso, Jemma Botha, Anica Swart, Elandri Janse van Rensburg, Simone Lourens, Kayla Reyneke, Jenna Evans, Miane Smit, Ayanda Hlubi, Seshnie Naidu, Refilwe Moncho, Mona Lisa Legodi and Nthabiseng Nini.

The non-travelling reserves are Caitlin Wyngaard and Diara Ramlakan.

South Africa U19 women’s team that played in T20 series against Namibia and Zimbabwe at Willowmoore Park.

The players and two non-travelling reserves will participate in the CSA Women’s Super League. They will also play in a five-match T20 series against India U19 women leading up to the tournament from January 14 to 29.

The matches will be hosted at Willowmoore Park main field and B field and JB Marks and North-West University Ovals in Potchefstroom.

The SA fixtures for all matches at Willowmoore Park:

• India U19 on January 14 at 13:45.
• Scotland U19 on January 16 at 13:45.
• United Arab Emirates U19 at 13:45.

A total of 41 matches will be played across the four venues with 16 teams participating in the tournament.
