WATCH: Beautiful Gardens of Benoni 2023 tickets now available

When peering into Pieter and Juanita Pretorius’ Lakefield garden one gets the sense of it being a luxurious county cottage, frozen in time.

For the past year, the couple has been working tirelessly to restore and rejuvenate not only their home, which dates back to the early 1900s but the sprawling garden too.

Filled with swooping butterflies and buzzing bees, Juanita beams as she wanders through the lush garden, pointing out the new blooms blossoming after she had spent hours turning the soil.

This magnificent home, which reportedly was the original Kilfenora farmhouse owned by the O’Brien family, will form part of the Rotary Anns of Benoni Van Ryn’s 22nd Beautiful Gardens of Benoni tour. This tour will take place on January 28 and 29.

This highly anticipated calendar event is back, following a two-year absence due to Covid-19.

Seven gardens will form part of the showcase, taking ticket holders to various locations around the city where they can bask in manicured gardens, scented with flourishing flowers.

The Rynfield home of Luchan and Marianna Zeeli will host the Anns’ ever-popular tea garden, where freshly baked treats will be available.

“We are incredibly excited for next year’s event and believe that our featured gardens will not only enchant visitors but ignite a love for gardening,” said Rhoda Toker, one of the event’s coordinators from the Rotary Anns.

“Journey with us through some of the city’s jewels, enjoy some cake and marvel at some magnificent residential oases,“ she said.

Funds raised through ticket sales and at the Anns’ tea garden will be used to fund some of the Anns’ ongoing charity drives.

The two-day event is sponsored by Heckers Garden Centre and RE/MAX Dazzle Benoni.
