Alberton club wins tournament to advance to nationals

They club earned a spot in the national finals which will be held in Sun City next year.

The Alberhart Tennis Club, from Alberton, has been crowned the Growthpoint Top Guns regional champions in Ekurhuleni after winning the A section of the national club tennis tournament at Gauteng East Tennis Association (GETA) at Lakefield on November 19 and 20.

The club, which comprises Marnè Roos, Ambrenschir Wienecke, Tremaye Mitchell and Vaughn Hunter, defeated Parkrand Tennis Club to win the trophy.

They also earned a spot in the national finals which will be held in Sun City next year.

The Benoni Country Club’s Benoni Clubbers beat Smashing Eagles from Springs to win the B section of the competition.

The Flintlocks, also from Springs, were awarded the most inspirational team for showing up, even though their best years are behind them.

“The combined age of the team’s four players adds up to 301 years. GETA is so proud of them,” said Desirè Wilson.
