WATCH: Bokgabo Poo (4) murder case postponed

There was heavy police presence during the appearance of the 30-year-old man accused of killing Bokgabo

The case against the 30-year-old man accused of murdering four-year-old Bokgabo Poo has been postponed to November 14.

The accused made his second court appearance in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on October 24 where it was expected that a formal bail application will proceed.

However, due to a pending case of rape against him, the matter was postponed for investigation.

At the time of Bokgabo’s murder, the accused was out on bail for the alleged rape of a nine-year-old who lives in Benoni.

Clarifying the reasons why the accused was out on bail, NPA regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the State at the time didn’t oppose bail because it had insufficient evidence.

In the Bokgabo case, the accused faces charges of kidnapping, rape, murder, defeating the ends of justice and violating a corpse.

Bokgabo’s mutilated body was found in a field in Wattville on October 11 after she went missing on October 10 while playing with a friend in Masoleng Park.

Before the discovery of the mutilated body, on that very same day, a human leg was found in the yard of a house in Wattville when the homeowner was sweeping the yard.
Police believe that the leg could be linked to the body found in the field, but this is yet to be confirmed.

Community members came out in numbers to show support for Bokgabo’s family as they chanted outside the Benoni Magistrate’s Court calling for justice.

Community members gathered outside the Benoni Magistrate’s Court in support of Bokgabo Poo’s family.

Speaking to the Benoni City Times after the court case, Bokgabo’s aunt Lebohang Mokgako said the family is still shattered because the rest of Bokgabo’s body parts are still missing. She urged community members to assist with finding the remains of their child.

Father Themba Seya said the religious fraternity is emotional and hurting following the brutal murder of the four-year-old.

“It is sad that the family can’t bury their child because there are still missing body parts and pending investigations. We want the government to enforce the law. We can’t allow children and women to be raped and killed like this,” said Seya.
