Northmead bowls ladies bring home bronze

The team was led by Ellen Zungu and Eileen Sykes with Deborah de Freitas as the second.

The Northmead Bowling Club claimed a bronze medal at The Blitz JBA Women’s Open Masters bowling tournament at Morningside Country Club on August 21.

The team, comprising five ladies, began their campaign on August 20 by playing in five matches, which they won to qualify for the knockouts.

They breezed through the play-offs, beating Belgravia Bowling Club to advance to the last four where they lost to Killarney Country Club, winning a bronze medal for their efforts.

Bronze Medalists. Northmead Bowling Club’s Chantal Henn, Heather Richardson, Debra de Freitas, Eileen Sykes and Ellen Zungu claimed a bronze medal at The Blitz bowling tournament.

The tournament, hosted by Johannesburg Bowls Association, featured over 40 clubs and was attended by some national team players and those who participated in the recent Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

“We are truly overwhelmed and blessed to have won the bronze medal. The cream of the crop entered this tournament. We did not expect to even win a game,” said Chantal Henn.

The team was led by Ellen Zungu and Eileen Sykes with Deborah de Freitas as the second. Henn and Heather Richardson served as the team’s skips.
