As part of their efforts to keep Western Extension clean and neat, Pam Golding Properties in collaboration with Western Extension Village Project and the residents spent their morning on August 13 cleaning the stretch of Russel Street.

Divided into groups, the teams cleaned up the park along Russel Street, the bridge and some of the streets in the area. To make the area lively, some residents painted the street pots and filled the pots with compost.

All thanks to the Ekurhuleni Municipality, a waste skip was available on the day.

According to one of the organisers, Yolandi Staniland, this initiative formed part of Pam Golding Properties drive to beautify Benoni.

“We have decided to not only focus on Benoni but Boksburg as well. On monthly bases, Pam Golding Properties will get businesses in those areas involved to make a difference in the towns where they work,” said Staniland.

One of the business owners, Ivonne Taylor of Lemongrass, said: “Amidst the perception that Western Extension is full of crime, stats released by a local security company shows the opposite is true.

“I think it is important for people not to paint area with the same brush because this has negatively affected the restaurants along Russel Street.”

Mika Mohammed (7) took part in the clean-up in Western Extension.

Taylor added that initiatives such as the clean-up help to unite the community while keeping the area clean.

One of the volunteers Mika Mohammed (7) said she took part in the clean-up because she wanted to do her part in keeping the environment clean.
