Northerns juniors wallop Old Bens in derby

Rawdon Pretorius, Kiros Vingos (2) and Jordan Clare scored the goals for Benoni Northerns.

Benoni Northerns Junior Football Club’s U11 team claimed a 4-0 victory in the derby against Old Bens’ U11s recently at Currin Park.

The score-line belied the intensity befitting such a showcase as both teams pulled out all the stops in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

In the first half, tackles were flying and no quarter was asked or given. Rawdon Pretorius opened the scoring with an exceptional header finding the top corner after 23 minutes.

The net was found minutes later by Northerns’ prolific striker, Kiros Vingos, after a defence-splitting pass from Caden McHarg.

Not to be deterred, Old Bens started to find their rhythm and their midfield general Rafael Casias enjoyed more room in the middle of the park.

The Old Bens keeper Travis van Wesemael was also on top form, pulling out fingertip saves and keeping his side in the game.

A second goal from Vingos and a net buster from Jordan Clare ended matters in favour of the away side.
