WATCH: Operation Okae Molao brings positive results in Etwatwa

Law officials joined forces to tackle crime during the operation

Sixteen arrests were made during Operation Okae Molao in Etwatwa on August 4.

The Ekurhuleni District SAPS members as well as EMPD, Gauteng traffic officers, Department of Community Safety, CPF, community patrollers and victim empowerment centre joined hands in the fight against crime in Etwatwa.

According to Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Khensani Mathebula, the suspects were arrested for different crimes including murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of drugs and illegal immigrants.

“Illegal shebeens and scrapyards were shut down.

“A total of 35 traffic fines worth R17 250 were issued to motorists who didn’t abide by the Road Traffic Act,” said Mathebula.

He said about 700 informative pamphlets were issued to community members of Barcelona, Etwatwa West and Emaphupheni. Police also engaged with the community regarding issues of drugs, GBV, domestic violence and abuse of alcohol.

“The community should work with the police in tackling crime in Etwatwa,” explained Mathebula.
