Church leads several outreach projects
Volunteers took to the streets in red shirts, working in communities
The Christian Family Church International (CFCI) welfare branch rallied 700 individuals to tackle 34 projects across Ekurhuleni and beyond on July 23.
The annual ‘We Serve our City’ campaign offered congregants and volunteers an opportunity to serve local communities through selfless acts.
According to Brandon Isaacs, welfare coordinator, unity was this year’s message – not only spiritually but also by meeting physical needs.
A brigade of people dressed in red T-shirts, took to the city streets to repair potholes in Bonearo Park, while others collected litter and cleaned along Mercury Street.
“Teams also surprised public servants, like firefighters at the Farrarmere Fire Station, with freshly baked goodies and coffee,” said Brandon.
“Our goal was to show appreciation to those who serve us and to the community that supports us.”
Other projects included cleaning various parks, setting up soup kitchens and spending time with children and the elderly at local care centres.
“We will host similar outreach days throughout the year and invite anyone interested in joining this initiative to put up their hand and become involved,” said Brandon.
