WATCH: Art Alive exhibition celebrates the beauty of art

The exhibition was in aid of the John Wesley Community Centre

Hundreds of phenomenal art pieces were showcased at the 12th annual Art Alive exhibition, which took place at the Alive Art School situated in Northmead from July 27 to 30.

The annual event, which attracted the young and the old, was organised by the school in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora to raise funds for the John Wesley Community Centre. A total of R25 700 was raised.

On July 28, the exhibition was abuzz with residents from Benoni and as far as Springs coming together to support the event. Charity squares artworks were on display inside the tent and the centre’s studio.

Attendees got an opportunity to enjoy hearty winter food while having fun around the bonfire as the public could view paintings until 21:00.

According to Art Alive owner, Elaine Marx, on the first day of the exhibition, they sold over 50 charity squares and 24 big paintings courtesy of students and teachers. They had about 200 people visiting.

“The exhibition was a great success as we managed to sell 91 charity squares and 74 paintings.

“The fundraising event is part of our way of giving back to the community and a platform to expose the wonderful work of our artists,” said Marx.

Looking at some of the sculptured work of art is Sally Lloyed and Claudette Wiese.

Larry Hyde, who is part of the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora fundraising team, said all the proceeds will be used to carry out a project at John Wesley Community Centre.
