Ekurhuleni metro joins in the homecoming celebration of victorious Banyana Banyana

The stars returned home after making the country proud by winning the Women's Africa Cup of Nation (WAFCON) in Morocco on July 23.

The City of Ekurhuleni joined the homecoming celebration of the winning Banyana-Banyana national team, which arrived at OR Tambo International Airport on July 26.

During the event, which saw throngs of fans descending on the airport in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni mayor Tania Campbell said: “Today is a special day for all South Africans, and it comes at a time when the national morale has been low due to the rising cost of living, the spate of tavern killings and our energy supply issues with Eskom”.

The mayor further stated that Banyana-Banyana has given South Africa a reason to be energised and inspired again.

“Banyana-Banyana has made us proud, and their win will go a long way towards nation-building. We know you will do exceptionally well in the upcoming World Cup,” she said.
