Sibikwa students entertains residents of Cheshire Home

Sibikwa Art Centre visits several care centres around Benoni as part of their school holiday tour.

The residents were blessed by the amazing beats played by members of Sibikwa Art Centre.

As part of their community engagement programme, members of Sibikwa Art Centre visited Elethu Daveyton Cheshire Home on July 12.

The creative crew performed gum boots dance and a traditional dance ‘Indlamu’ and performed choral music for the residents of the home.

According to Sifiso Maseko of Sibikwa Art Centre, they visited the centre because they wanted to put smiles on people’s faces, especially those who are not able to attend theatre productions.

“To see the residents smiling and cheering makes us happy because we wanted them to see that there are people in the community who care about them,” said Maseko.

Members of Sibikwa Art Centre bowed out in style at Elethu Daveyton Cheshire Home after giving the residents magnificent performances.

Maseko encouraged young talented people to join the Sibikwa family.
Elethu Daveyton Cheshire Home manager, Sandile Mafu, thanked Sibikwa Art Centre for their warm visit.

“Most of the residents feel abandoned and lonely when no one visits them.

“I hope the visit will also encourage other centres from various departments to come and engage with the residents.” said Mafu.
