The suspects are facing charges of kidnapping and obstructing the course of justice

A police sergeant from the Benoni SAPS has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Refiloe Malope who was allegedly abducted by two suspects in Limpopo on May 9.

The Benoni SAPS member was arrested with his accomplice on June 21 during a joint intelligence-driven operation that was conducted by the Limpopo tracking team, Provincial Organised Crime and Hlogotlou detectives.

It is alleged that the victim was forcefully shoved into the boot of a sedan at Kgaphamadi Village.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the team is following up on information that the suspects might have murdered the woman and dumped her body into a discontinued ventilation mine shaft in Benoni.

“The SAPS in Benoni and the Department of Mineral Resources have been requested to assist in these efforts,” said Mojapelo.

Both suspects have appeared in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on June 23, facing charges of kidnapping and obstructing the course of justice.
