Two suspects nabbed for unlicensed firearms

Concerted efforts to address proliferation of unlicensed firearms are continuing in Ekurhuleni to ensure the safety of the citizens

Members of Crime Intelligence in Ekurhuleni Central District received information, on May 26, from concerned citizens regarding suspected Zama Zamas in possession of unlicensed firearms in Etwatwa.

An ad-hoc intelligence-driven operation on May 27 was conducted by members comprising of Crime Intelligence and the EMPD Tracing Unit.

Officers swooped on the residence in Mahlinza Street, Etwatwa, where two suspects, aged 24 and 31, were arrested on charges of being in possession of two unlicensed firearms.

A silver Magnum 357 Smith and Wesson with three live rounds of ammunition, as well as a black CZ 75 with no serial number and 159 live rounds of ammunition, were seized.

District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole commended members for their excellent work in ensuring that the firearms were removed from the streets of Ekurhuleni District.
