BFS recovers three unlicensed firearms

The suspect attempted to evade arrest by wearing a stolen security uniform

During weekend operations, members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) recovered three unlicensed firearms and arrested three men in two separate incidents.

The first arrests came on April 22 when officers arrested two men for being in possession of a stolen vehicle in Emangweni Section, Thembisa.

“The blue Chevrolet Cruz that was hijacked and a 9mm Star pistol with the serial number filed off was recovered on the scene,” said WO Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

On April 23, a suspected business robber was arrested and two unlicensed firearms were recovered in Pomona.

According to Giblin, members responded to the scene on Seventh Avenue just after 07:00 and found one of the suspected robbers wearing a security uniform, which made him look like an on-duty officer.

“He was found to be in possession of a 9mm Llama pistol, with serial number filed off and seven live rounds,” said Giblin.

“Upon further investigation at the scene, a discarded 9mm USP compact pistol, with the serial number filed off as well as seven rounds, was found in the grass. It is suspected it was dropped by the man’s accomplices.”
