Senpai grades up

She started training at a young age and has been part of the JKA Benoni dojo for two years.

Senpai Patricia Resch of the JKA Karate Benoni dojo was recently graded to shodan (1st Dan) at the SAJKA Gauteng provincial tournament at Ellis Park Indoor Arena.

The 30-year-old started taking part in karate from a young age and has been training under the JKA Benoni dojo’s instructor, sensei Mike Forner, for two years.

“The ladies’ division is quite tough, so it’s a step up for her. She’s a good competitor and she has also qualified for the nationals in May,” Forner said.

At the provincial championship, Forner’s students won a total of 17 medals, including 10 gold, four silver and three bronze. They all qualified for the SAJKA national championships scheduled for May 20-21 at Ellis Park Indoor Arena.

Anyone who wants to join the JKA Benoni dojo can contact Forner on 083 458 2888.
