Old Bens kick off season with win

The Benoni side beat United 1-0 to claim the bragging rights.

Old Bens FC started their super league campaign with a dominant display against MUSA United on March 5 at Boksburg Stadium.

The Benonians beat United 1-0 to claim the bragging rights. Fabio de Freitas scored the only goal of the match to hand his team the win.

With wind making conditions difficult, the Bens players dominated possession and kept on piling pressure on United for much of the game. Both teams created decent opportunities in the second half but in the end, it was the United goalkeeper that kept the score respectable at 1-0.

Bens first team coach Michael Lee was impressed with the outcome of the game. He said he expects a more clinical performance in the next game.

“We are delighted to start the season with three points. Next week, we play against a tough opponent in Kempton Park. We are playing at home. We want to build on our performance and grab another three points,” Lee said.

The Old Bens reserve side started the day with a 2-0 win against MUSA United reserves.

Bens will play against Kempton Park at Currin Park on March 12 at 15:30. The reserve side will kick off the day against Kempton Park reserves at 13:50.
