Open Series a success

The series started on March 4 with doubles and mixed doubles round-robin matches.

The Eastern Gauteng Badminton Association’s (EGBA) Ruan Snyman and Deidre Jordaan won the men’s and women’s single events to clinch gold medals at the Open Series Badminton Tournament at the John Barrable Hall on March 5.

Snyman beat Robert White for the win while Jordaan defeated Tamsyn Smith from the Southern Gauteng Badminton Association (SGBA).

The event, which attracted players from across the province, started on March 4 with doubles and mixed doubles round-robin matches. The finals took place on Saturday.

Robert White was beaten by Ruan Snyman in the men’s singles final.

In the men’s doubles, Snyman teamed up with Dillan Schaap to beat the SGBA team of Keren Zhang and Keyan Zhang.

Amy Ackerman and Jordaan beat Michelle Butler-Emmett and Cayleen Miller to win the women’s doubles.
In the mixed doubles, Ackerman and Jared Elliot beat the team of Robert White and Deidre Jordaan.

EGBA junior secretary Vicky Fenny was excited about how the event turned out.

“It was an exciting event. The participants played a lot of badminton in the round-robin format and all had fun,” she said.
