Northmead Water Tower: MMC to meet City Times on site to discuss issues

The site visit was scheduled for today (February 4) but has been postponed to a later date.

After receiving numerous complaints regarding continuous water interruptions affecting Farrarmere, Northmead and surrounds, MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy Senzi Sebiko has committed to shedding light on the completion of the Northmead Water Tower.

He will be meeting the City Times on site to discuss various issues.

It was previously stated that the R44 600-million tower would be completed by June this year.

This after the date has been moved on numerous occasions, with the metro citing internal issues related to contractors as the cause of the delays.

With the completion deadline looming and seemingly no work being done, the MMC has undertaken to host the City Times at a site inspection of the facility.

The site visit was scheduled but then postponed to a later date.

During the visit, we hope to find out when the 5.5-megalitre tower will finally be completed and what short-term solutions will be put in place to prevent any further water interruptions to Benoni suburbs, mostly caused by a switch tripping, according to the metro.
