The release of the matric results today (January 21) sparked excitement for Benoni learners who did well amid disruptions caused by the pandemic.
According to the Department of Education, the Class of 2021 had the largest number of learners sitting for the matric examinations, bagging an overall pass rate of 76.4%.
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature speaker, Hon Ntombi Mekgwe congratulated the Gauteng class of 2021.
“This outstanding performance can be attributed to the learners’ commitment to their studies as well as the many dedicated educators, officials, school governing bodies, parents and all stakeholders who remained committed to the development and prosperity of our province by providing support in our schooling system,” said Mekgwe.
The City Times visited Hoërskool Hans Moore, Benoni High School, Willowmoore High School, William Hill Secondary School and Liverpool Secondary School to capture photos of matriculants who were over the moon when they collected their results.

Christah Joseph of Willowmoore High obtained six distinctions (English, Afrikaans, mathematical literacy, life orientation, business studies, computer applications technology and history).
Nazmeera Panwala is Liverpool Secondary School's top achiever, with six distinctions in Afrikaans, mathematics, life orientation, geography, life science and physical sciences.
