Madison Landsman a standout at CSA Girls National Week

Madison finished the tournament as one of the top run scorers and wicket takers.

“Landsman has been the cricketer to watch this tournament as she has been brilliant with both bat and ball,” is an extract from an article on www.gsport.co.za, by Selina Munsamy, about the Cricket South Africa u-19 Girls National Week, which took place in Paarl and Stellenbosch from December 16 to 20.

“Landsman” is none other than Rynfield’s rising female cricket star Madison Landsman (17).

The Benoni High learner is entering matric in January as a RCL (prefect).

At the tournament, Madison was the captain of the Easterns girls u-19 team that took part against all the provinces in the country, and emerged the only player from this team to be selected for the SA u-19 schools team.

“Being chosen for the girls schools team is extremely special to me, because it’s something I have been working towards for a good portion of my life, and is another step closer to me achieving my dream,” she said.

“It was my first u-19 National Week. My actual first u-19 week was in 2019, which was completely rained out and not a ball was bowled.

“Then the 2020 u-19 week was cancelled due to Covid, so this National Week was something that has been two years in the waiting, making the selection all the more special.

“The build-up to this week was completely different to 2019, as I contracted Covid two and a half weeks before the tour, which made training close to the week impossible, and things felt uncertain about whether or not I’d be able to go on the tour at all.

“So, when a negative result showed on the Covid test, I knew this would be my week.

“I’m extremely grateful for the people around me – my parents and sister were there supporting me every day, as they always do.

“My Easterns team mates were amazing to share the field with and my coach, Adele van Eck, who has been coaching and mentoring me since I was 12, as well as our u-19 coach for the tour, was very supportive and her belief in me helped me so much.”
