Kids Haven says thanks in final update for the year

47 of the 157 children can make home visits to family, extended family or host homes this Christmas.

Sam Mokgopha (CEO) and everyone at Kids Haven writes:

It’s here! December … and Omicron! Just when we thought we would calm down for the Christmas holidays, we found ourselves managing a Covid-19 outbreak at our centre and the village.

Fortunately, it has been possible to isolate the children in their different houses and the centre and it would seem that we had no new cases.

Our staff who tested positive are also back at work. We continue to practice the basics of masks, sanitise and separate to keep us all safe.

A moment to thank Aunty Terri for holding Kids Haven together for these few weeks while still rehearsing and performing the pre-school nativity play, collecting school reports and buying new uniforms for 2022, among a million other things.

If you want anything done – tell a busy person! Thank you, Terri, for keeping your batteries fully charged and getting everything done no matter what!

We appreciate you.

This is our last post for 2021 and an important one from Kids Haven to say thank you to you for all the care and protection that you have given us this year.

It would not be possible without the financial help, donations of new and used items and the cakes and meals and moments that you have provided us.

We are grateful to have your friendship and support.

Kids Haven remains open over the Christmas period, although 47 of our 157 children can make home visits to family, extended family or host homes.

It is important to keep and build relationships with family members, and the school holidays allow children to connect with aunts, parents and grandparents for a short time.

Each child has received their Santa Shoebox before going away, while all the remaining children will receive their boxes on Christmas Day.

We will be getting back to our usual numbers in time for the new school term in January.

Since December started, we have welcomed four new children to Kids Haven, and are likely to welcome a few more before the month is over.

One of these children has been living on the streets and now feels safe with a roof over his head and more than enough to eat, including the prospect of a wonderful Christmas lunch and braai on New Year’s Day.

Kids Haven can provide for all of these children with the protection that they need – away from adults who have hurt them and stolen some of their childhood.

We are grateful that we have the opportunity to restore care and protection to these girls and this young boy.

We will continue to post updates on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

The donation centre in Bryanston will be closed from December 23 and reopen on January 3, but you can reach us at the main centre on 011 421 4222 or via hello@kidshaven.co.za
