Waste removal to continue
Zweli added that the issues will be resolved before December 8.
The Ekurhuleni metro is in talks with Daveyton, Etwatwa and Tsakani residents about the waste removal contract following the service being interrupted on December 6.
“The metro is aware of the refuse collection challenges and concerns in Tsakani, Daveyton and Etwatwa,” said metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
“On Monday, a group of community members who were protesting against the newly appointed waste removal contractors interrupted waste removal services, demanding employment.
“The services will be reinstated from Wednesday. A plan to clear all created backlogs will be communicated from Wednesday,” he explained.
“Notwithstanding the abovementioned, waste was removed in Tsakani and Langaville on Monday morning, though the previous contractors’ employees stopped two of the service providers’ trucks, forcefully demanding employment.
“As a result, work to remove waste was affected in those areas.
“The new waste removal contractor has committed to meet the concerned group to seek an amicable solution to their concerns.”
