Sibikwa Arts Centre’s Phola Vibez Jazz, featuring Nduduzo Makhathini, will be hosted on December 5.

“Since Sibikwa’s launch of jazz sessions, the event has fast become a fixture for many jazz enthusiasts,” said Caryn Green, CEO of Sibikwa.

“This year, in association with Concerts SA, the Norwegian Embassy and SAMRO, the centre is proud to host Pan-African jazz extraordinaire Makhathini.”
Green added that as a leading hub for the arts and entertainment destination in Ekurhuleni,

Sibikwa has hosted numerous sessions over the years that have boasted performances by well-known jazz musicians, such as Khaya Mahlangu, Banda Banda, Shane Cooper, Sisonke Xonti and Tumi Mogorosi.

“The premise from which Makhathini’s work emanates come from being born and raised in the rugged hills of umGungundlovu, a peri-urban landscape in which music and ritual practices were symbiotically linked.

“His work is also influenced by an upbringing infused with traditional South African music, spiritual music, Afro-jazz as well as American jazz.”

Tickets to the live show are limited to an audience of 80.

The live-stream can be viewed on the Sibikwa Arts Centre Facebook page.
