Hat-trick hole in one scorer will be missed

The family went on to explain how much Bernie enjoyed playing golf, bridge and scrabble.

Bernard Goldman (81) died of a heart attack on September 4.

Goldman recently featured on the back page of the City Times, having achieved a hat-trick scoring three holes-in-one at the Benoni Lake Club, where he was a member.

The article also shared his Jewish heritage and how he played a big part in the Jewish community in Benoni.

Goldman was buried the day after his death at the Jewish Cemetery in Benoni.

According to his wife, Barbara, and Jewish community friend Yvonne, Goldman’s greatest achievements were his three children, when he became the general manager at Fedsure Insurance Company and when he sold the old synagogue premises to St Francis School and converted the Rabbi’s house in Woburn Avenue into a small synagogue for the current Jewish community.

Goldman was born in St Albans, London, and moved to Alphen Park in 1970 where he resided until his death.

“The whole community was very sad at his passing and he is mourned not only by the Jewish community but by everyone who knew him,” said Yvonne.

“Bernie had a wonderful singing voice and belonged to the Jewish Male Choir. He then became involved in the Benoni Synagogue, joined the choir and eventually became president of the community.

“I have worked on the committee with Bernie for many years and he was a genuine man who got on with everyone. He had a wonderful sense of humour and will be missed by all.”

The family went on to explain how much Bernie enjoyed playing golf, bridge and scrabble.

In fact, according to all of them, although his children lived abroad, he connected with them electronically playing scrabble and bridge online.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, their three children, Jeffrey, Anthony and Joanne, and seven grandchildren, who are all living abroad.

His wife and children said they were not able to put into words their feelings about losing their father and husband, but that he is going to be greatly missed and they will always remember him with love.
