A brush with local artists: meet Katinka Meiring

Benoni Art Route is open to anyone with a passion for drawing, painting and sculpture.

“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures.” – Henry Ward Beecher.

This is what Katinka Meiring conveys in every art piece she paints. Katinka is 85 years old, but hopefully still young in spirit.

She said with her art she tries to keep an open mind and youthful approach. She is also not afraid of experimenting.

The art enthusiast moved to Benoni in 1962. She lives in Morehill, just above the C.R Swart Park, where their Benoni Art Route exhibitions are held.

Katinka loves art because, on the one hand, it provides an outlet for her unique creativity, and at the same time the aim is for the works to give joy and happiness to the onlooker.

She said added that what sets her apart is the determination to develop her style, which ranges from impressionistic to abstract.

She works with bold brushwork, clean colours, sometimes pools of water into which her paints can flow and ‘do their own thing’. Every new work is a surprise. Benoni Art Route is open to anyone with a passion for drawing, painting and sculpture.
