Send an email for membership activation to libraries@ekurhuleni.gov.za

The Ekurhuleni metro has closed all 48 of the metro’s libraries during the adjusted Covid-19 alert level four because of the increasing number of Covid-19 infections.

Karin Muller, head of library and information services, said libraries will be closed until further notice depending on the Covid-19 situation in the country.

“The metro will keep the community posted about any developments regarding the closure or re-opening of the libraries.”

Whilst physical visits to the library are currently not allowed, virtual library service will, however, be available in all libraries:

The virtual library is a digital space in the libraries that keeps and organises virtual books and other library materials that can be accessed at all the metro’s libraries.

To be able to use the services, the public needs to register for the service.

• Send an email for membership activation to libraries@ekurhuleni.gov.za

• Once you received your membership number, log on to Gauteng.overdrive.com to access audio and e-books.

• Library books and materials borrowed through the virtual library can be used for 14 days. After that, it is automatically returned.
