Residents’ association receives car sponsorship

Residents who would like to learn more about the ARA are welcome to contact Marinda Beukes on 082 920 1548.

On June 19, Supercops, a security company based in Northmead, sponsored the Avenues Residents Association (ARA) a car to patrol their area in Northmead on 1st to 14th Avenue and 1st to 7th Street.

The association was formed in conjunction with Supercops to ensure the safety and security of the residents and businesses in the area.

Marinda Beukes, one of the residents who started the initiative, said, “Our patrollers are there just for surveillance and visibility and they do not interact with any situation unless qualified to do so.

“We have the consent and support of the SAPS and are encouraging residents to assist.”

To join the ARA, residents are required to complete application forms and pay their yearly fee of R200 to assist in expenses.

“Being in the residents’ association means having a voice when it comes to service delivery and other matters,” she said.

Kevin Pauley from Supercops said that the community was calling for help and they were excited to launch the patrol car as this would allow for a quicker response time and more visibility to scare off criminals.

The ARA is more than just a safety patrol association, it has a dedicated towing service company, STG towing, which will make sure that when residents are in trouble, the towing company is one phone call away.

Ingrid Walker from STG towing said that they jumped on board as they are a family-owned company and they wanted to show that they care about the community.

In the past 18 months, the ARA has managed to add the following services to residents: welfare, youth, infrastructure and a library.

Residents who would like to learn more about ARA are welcome to contact Marinda Beukes on 082 920 1548.
