Rynfield residents object to another cell mast

Residents have until June 10 to object to the new cell mast.

Since the end of November, Rynfield residents have received no feedback regarding their cell mast objection and have since heard that another mast is in the process of being erected.

“Objections were hand-delivered to both the cell mast erection company in Pretoria and the Ekurhuleni metro well within the deadlines given,” said Don Jones, cell mast committee member.

In 2020 residents brought the erecting of the cell mast on 5 Davey Street (on Rand Dairy’s premises) to the City Times’ attention with some of the following concerns:
• Noise of the dogs barking at the workmen at night from Rand Dairy loading trucks and shifting crates.
• Refrigeration compressors noisily stopping and starting continuously all day.
• The fuel and exhaust fumes from their own and other delivery trucks.

“On May 16 a number of the committee met at Gerry Kramer’s home. We had previously heard from our DA Clr Lornette Joseph that another cell mast application has been lodged on Erf 405, which is directly opposite the Scrap Book premises on Rand Dairy’s property,” Jones explained.

According to Jones, this is 20m from Rand Dairy’s site.

“Public notices were placed for three days only, as observed by Gerry and Kevin, but have subsequently disappeared and have not been replaced yet,” Jones said.

“The committee has decided to take the second application very seriously and request those involved to object to it as they did with the Rand Dairy objection.

“Those in Bandjes Street should anticipate registered letters from the new cell mast Consultancy (WPP on behalf of Atlas Power). We must all object by latest June 10.”

It was decided that Gerry Kramer (062 971 8759) would manage the Rand Dairy objection and Dave Smith (082 788 8922) the new application.

Jones added: “We are now fighting a battle on two fronts and somehow this has to come to an end. We must stand together otherwise we face devaluation of our properties, dreadful aesthetics and unknown health consequences in the future.

“Please understand the severity of the situation that we are facing and kindly support our cause,” he concluded.

The City Times has contacted the Ekurhuleni metro for comment and is awaiting their feedback.
