The tournament, which kicked off on February 6, saw over 300 players who played in the group stages leading up to a total of 32 players on Playstation and 16 on Xbox.

These players then took part in the do-or-die games from February 12 to 15 of which only eight players (four players per platform) then proceeded to the semi-finals, with the final taking place on February 20.

The winners of the competition walked away with their share of a pool prize of R20 000.

Dhanjee made it to the final for Xbox and went up against the number one ranked contestant in the country.

“The final consists of best out of three,” he explained.

“I lost my first game, which in turn put me in a stressed-out situation. I needed to relax but couldn’t and my finishing was lacking, so I ended up losing the second game as well, thus I placed second.”

This Benonian plays professional Fifa for a sports organisation called Bravado Gaming.

“Because I am a part of this organisation I enter all these kinds of competitions,” he said.

“I normally play on PlayStation where my whole account and everything is, but for this competition, I applied for both Xbox and PlayStation and when checking where they placed me I noticed it was Xbox.

“So I borrowed a friend’s account on Xbox because I knew he had a good team.”

Dhanjee has played many of these events and recalls coming first in a few of them.

“One I can fondly remember is the 2020 tournament – three teams, one City,” he said.

“I walked away with a prize of R7 500 and a lot of DHL Stormers merchandise because I was representing them in this competition.”

This Benonian is very proud of his achievement, as he believes it is not always about winning. He is just happy he had fun and placed high up on the rankings.

“I was most excited about my semi-final win, which I will never forget,” he said.

“I went up against someone that I had played against recently in a qualifying round where I had lost against him, so this was like taking my revenge because this time I walked away with the win.”
