Taxi driver shot dead at CBD petrol station

The dead driver was shot in the upper body and the alleged suspects fled.

Police are appealing for any information after a taxi driver was shot dead at a petrol station on December 3 in Bunyan Street, Benoni CBD, at around 8pm.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the 48-year-old man was inside the taxi while a petrol attendant put petrol in the vehicle.

“Two men in a silver Opel Astra stopped at the garage, got out of the vehicle, went straight to the taxi driver and shot him in the upper body,” said Sekele.

“It is believed the incident might be related to taxi violence.”

No arrests have been made and nothing was taken from the taxi.

A case of murder was opened at the Benoni Police Station.
