Local gym wants to give back

All you need to do is bring a gift selected off the wish list or nappies and wet wipes for entry.

Trinergy Gym is holding a fitness session in aid of the Almond Tree Children of Promise charity on December 5.

The event will begin at 8am and finish at 10am. It will be held at the gym at Northmead Mall.

The Almond Tree started in the home of Charmaine and Kent McQueen in February 2014.

After many years of being exposed to children-at-risk in South Africa and seeing the adverse effects of HIV/Aids, poverty and substance abuse on children in South Africa, Charmaine and Kent decided, by the leading of the Lord, to start The Almond Tree in their home.

You will then be able to choose from the following:

• Powerbox

• High-low

• Zumba

• Hip-hop step

• Sizzle and sweat ladies boxing

• Les Mills sprint or yoga

“You will do great and feel good too,” said Ryan Manthe, owner of the gym.

Children’s wish/needs list:

• Nappies, Vaseline and wipes, for ages three to five most needed (37 babies)

• Toothbrushes, for ages from two years to 12 years old

• School uniform, for ages from four to 12 years old (navy/denim shorts, bright-coloured plain T-shirts, slops and tekkies)

• Outfit for Christmas day (Almond Tree tradition: the children are dressed in one smart outfit just for Christmas day as they usually only wear secondhand clothing, but this one outfit they get to keep for themselves).

• Stationery for school, for ages four to 12 years old (colour pencils, HB pencils, eraser, sharpener, ruler, Pritt, crayons)

• Toy suggestions: babies one to three years old, educated toys, puzzles, reading books.

• Toy suggestions: children four to 12 years old, baby dolls, pram, baby clothing, creative play items like cooking set/ DIY set, army toys and action figures (no guns).

When bringing a gift, gifts or items for the children, write the age and gender on the gift wrapping paper.
