HunTer scoops another international award

The local songstress is busy with two new albums and “lots of music videos for next year”.

Benoni’s HunTer Leiter has done it again by scooping the Modern Original Country Music Amazing Vocalist 2020 award at the Fair Play Country Music Awards on the weekend.

Instead of being in Ermelo, Holland, to receive the award on November 2, HunTer and other hopefuls were part of an online ceremony on the morning of November 7, due to the pandemic.

“When I was announced Modern Original Country Music Amazing Vocalist 2020, I was in shock,” an ecstatic HunTer said.

“I was speechless and the reality only really hit me when I woke up the next morning.”

She explained the journey which brought her to this moment of triumph.

“After arriving back from the USA in October 2019, where I won two international awards (Texas Sounds Best Female Vocalist 2019 and Dollywood.

Josie Music Awards World Music Artist of the Year 2019), I was nominated for the Fair Play Country Music Awards.
“This was the first international Red Carpet Award Show in Holland and I was thrilled to be nominated.

“I received four nominations, from radio presenters and other folk from around the world.”

“Winning Texas Best Female 2017, in Texas, USA, opened doors in the international music industry for me – considering I was not really a country singer.

“But I was thrown in the deep end and when nominated I had to write some country songs and find a few covers to perform in Texas for the judges.

“This was unknown territory for me as all the years I sang and performed pop, rock and ballads.

“This year, when I received news of the nomination via email from Gaby and Peter, of Fair Play Country Music in Holland, I was asked to send in my music.

“I sent in several of my originals but two stood out for me, Kicking up Dust and and Every Woman, two original songs I wrote for my Halfway around the World album in 2012.”

HunTer said to be recognised internationally again is a huge honour.

“I have a God-given talent and want to share it with the world.”

The local songstress is busy with two new albums and “lots of music videos for next year”.

“It is going to be a big year for my career in South Africa,” HunTer said.

“I have a beautiful Afrikaans song that was written for me by one of our top songwriters and I have also written several songs myself for the new album.

“I have also written English, Afrikaans and Portuguese songs for my new gospel album.”
